About me
At the Thumb Octagon Barn is the 1914 apple cider press! This demonstration of apple cider making will be a hands-on experience for the students. A short oral history of cider making will be followed by students actively participating in the process. Students will place apples on the conveyor belt, watch the apples being chopped and squeezed into juice. Students will smell, hear, touch and see from beginning to end as to how cider was made in the early 1900’s. Discussion will detail how cider - which is a healthy drink - is made today and can be purchased year round in many stores. (Note: samples of the cider will not be available to taste due to the Michigan Health Department rules/regulations.)
