About me
The Powerhouse is one of the original buildings on site filled with electrical equipment from the early 1900’s. Walking into this small, brick building is like walking back in time to see Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla. Water was an important factor in trying to produce electricity then. Students will be able to see peat bricks that were used to run a steam engine and a generator used to bring electricity to the house and barn of Mr. & Mrs. Purdy. Students will also have the ability to see what wiring would have looked like. Forget the Romex wires used today, in 1930 we had a system known as the knob and tube.
The Garage is one of the original structures on the site. It was built in 1919. James Purdy built the Garage to house his automobile. He had a two mile ride to work. The Garage has been restored to its’ original shape. Usually the 1928 antique Dodge car is stored in the Garage as well as other artifacts of the early 1900’s; look in the opened Garage door to see the memorabilia.
